Thousand Vacancies of Electricians in Trivandrum

Recently I had yet another weary experience of hunting for an electrician in Trivandrum At first I went to an electric shop at Kumarapuram, hopping for a lead. The owner assured that there is one guy who has gone for repair. I waited for this guy, hoping that he will turn before my wife's fuse blows by itself.

By around 3:PM, I again got a stern warning from my spouse. And again, I stepped up my search for an electrician in an around Kumarapuram. Out of desperation, I even went to a medical store. When I asked for a lead, he just winked a part of his eye. No other words, or assurance. Just a nod. WHY THE HELL CAN"T THESE PEOPLE OPEN THEIR FU^@#@# MOUTH!

Well, that's the way Mallus's have programmed themselves to be.

Without loosing heart , I went near Devi Scans, and a electric repair shopkeeper helped me this person.

And now I'm waiting for him, hoping that he will turn before my I face a power surge.

Store Clerk In Trivandrum - Skill upgrade and Earnings

Today in Kumarapuram, Trivandrum, I went to buy few provisions from the Reliance outlet in Kumarapuram. Being Onam season, the store was packed with all kinds of items, I asked the store girl for few items, and she showed located the product for me. Good service.

Next, I moved to the billing counter. The lady in the counter was new to me. I haven't see her earlier. A new recruit. So, what's new here...

Along with me, there was two other Maldivian ladies inside the shop. While, I went past one of the lady I felt the smell of fresh perfume. It's when I remembered what someone told a thing which these Maldivians think about us we Indians.

They think, we Indians stink. Yes, no doubt, we don't use much perfume stuff. We believe in our natural scent. And, so we stink.

Anyways, my point is not about how much we stink, the question is something else...

I was thinking of the lady behind the cash counter. Few thoughts about it...

  1. How much does she earn in a month? Working is a Reliance outlet? Well, I'll find out.
  2. How can she earn more in the current job?
  3. What don't she welcome each customer with few words or with a smile?
  4. What happens if she learns Divehi and speak to Maldivans who come to this store?
  5. Will she get picked for a better job, or will someone offer a good placement elsewhere?

Family Run Take Away Centre

Mom and Son Runs a Take Away Counter

I took this pic while I waited for my roti's. This is from a shop in Hyderabad. I was moved by the way this family has found their daily bread. In this pic, mother is seen making roti's, while the son takes care of food delivery.

Question?

If you ask a typical family in Kerala, if they can set a small business or a take away center in their locality, then what would  be their answer?

I bet most people you ask will shun away from the business activity. The world business is a big taboo for most people. Next, they will say, what will other's think? Moreover, they will have a thousand questions as to how, when, where, why.

How is this this locality in Hyderabad has so many curry points, food counters by evening? And the good part is that most of the shops are run by ladies.

Cheers to the lady power!

Idea to Spread Random Acts of Kindness - How Business Can Spread Positivism?

Online Store in Trivandrum - Kada.in

Before I forget this concept or idea, let me pen it down here. So, here's the story.

I'm a big fan of Kada.in. We're purchased goods from this store couple of times. Most times, we have ordered stuff from Bangalore, and it was delivered in the right time.

Apart from buying stuff for my mom, we bought stuff for a lady in our family who is going hard times. Due to her choices, she is down in her wit's end, and with lot of debts. At first we thought we could help her by giving cash, but later we found that all the money we give goes to naught. So, we decided to buy her month's provision through Kada.in. We order basic food stuffs so that she and her child doesn't have to go hunting for food.

And, with this, I hit this concept...

What if Kada.in or any online store have an option to deliver food for people who are really finding it difficult to buy a day's food. First, they should create a new tab ( menu) which says, giving forward or any word which makes it sound good.

They should list out the people in different localities who are in need of food. For instance, they can start by listing families which has lost their bread earning member in an accident or due to illness. And, when they list out the name, family and address, they should put a short story of their life, and how they can benefit from such donations.

Just imagine a NRI from Trivandrum, who buys groceries for her family decides to part with few rupees to buy some items for the needy. With the click of the button, the person can feed a family for a month or so.

Will such a concept work?
Will the company execute it with integrity?
How can the company show the proof of delivery?
Will the recipient know the whereabouts of the donor? Or can it be made anonymous?
Who will ensure that the groceries reach the right person?

Well, if it works it can bring smile and tears of many hapless people in Trivandrum or for that matter in any part of the world. For a company like Kada.in or bigbasket.com, it's a way of showing that they care for the people.

Will it work. I'm glad I shared it before I forgot this concept. If it sounds good, then share your thoughts in the comments box.

Replacing Yesterday’s Notions of Conformity

Today, after a gap of many years I met one of the vibrant guys from the club. Despite all these years, he has retained to keep himself chirpy, vibrant and from the outside he seems full of life. While we chatted and updated the events and activities, he punched on the topic of problems in Kerala.

Soon it was clear how he felt the DJ programs in Cochin and it's connection to drugs or whatever as the biggest malice. In short, I was disappointed at the way he has formed his opinion on what he stressed.

One thing is clear, the people in Kerala addicted to print and TV media are easily swayed by these reports, while bigger issues are ignored.

Nobody talks about the lack of garbage collection and the growing plastic and household waste which are dumped by the road side or in some empty property? What will happen when the rain falls and carries these waste to our waster table?
No one discusses on how public corruption and uncleanliness in Trivandrum city. What about some mentoring plans to young people in Kerala? Is Gulf job their only solution? What about the way the politicians has made a fiasco out of the alcohol policy in the state? What if Kerala looses tourist money due to these illogical laws?

Is it time for these leaders to find more serious topics or for the news medium to ring a positive change in the state? Well, there's still time for these media houses, before they will loose subscriber base and ad revenue. When will they ever learn?  ( Line from the song - Where Have All The Flowers Gone - Peter, Paul & Mary)

Trivandrum Musings

Rediscovering Trivandrum ( Is it an appropriate pic)

Here goes my first blog after quitting my regular job. I've created a series of blog, and most of it is lying in the scrapyard of blogs - unattended and untouched.

The idea behind this blog is simple - Reconnect with people in Trivandrum, discover the places, find new friends, acquaintances, and be a human.

I'm not sure how long I'll succeed in my objective - nevertheless, I'm giving it a shot before I loose the steam.

Wish me luck!

Charles.
